How to Catch Barramundi
Incoming tide flooding structure (mangroves, rocky bars) is the most reliable trigger; the first 2hrs of run-in
Dawn and dusk are peak; barramundi are also heavily night-active post-wet season
Warm water 26°C+, low light, slightly turbid water from tidal flow; barra prefer overcast days to bright sun
Mangrove roots, submerged timber, rock bars at creek mouths, bridge pylons, snags in rivers
Cast hard bodies and surface lures tight to structure and retrieve parallel to cover; stop-start retrieve with pauses beside snags triggers aggressive strikes
A metre-plus barra never chases — position the lure to land within 30cm of the structure and it's already in ambush range. Accuracy over distance wins.
