Flathead Fishing
Australia's flathead group includes Dusky Flathead (the most common, to 1.2m in NSW and QLD estuaries), Tiger Flathead (southern VIC and SA, prized eating), Rock Flathead, and Deep-Sea Flathead. Soft plastics worked over sand and weed beds are the go-to technique for dusky flathead. Southern anglers prize the Tiger Flathead for the table. The 3 Meter Flatty challenge belongs here.

How to Catch Flathead
Run-out tide concentrating bait in channels; the last 2hrs of the outgoing is prime
Dawn on the first run-out tide; also productive at dusk and through the night on sand flats
Clear to slightly turbid water; flathead move from deep channels to sand flats on the tide
Sand and weed bed edges, drop-offs from sand flats into channels, the tail-out of deep holes
Slow hop along the bottom — lift the rod tip 30cm and let the plastic settle; flathead ambush from the sand bottom and eat on the pause
Fish the edge where sand meets weed — that transition zone is a flathead superhighway. Walk the edge of the drop-off methodically and you'll find fish consistently.
