Conditions

Cold, clear water 12–16°C; calm to light swell for kelp reef access

Structure

Rock ledges and deep reef in 15–60m, kelp-covered bottom, underwater rocky headlands off TAS coast

Technique

Static bottom bait with pippi, squid, or crab; or slow-worked jig along the reef profile

Pro Tip

Trumpeter hold extremely close to the kelp — drop your bait right on the reef edge. If you're not getting snags, you're not fishing in the right spot.
